Are you lost in thought?

Every day our minds are stuck thinking about others, remembering our past, thinking about one’s self, and envisioning the future. We daydream and wonder so much about all the new cool, interesting, insightful, and fun experiences we can have in our lives, and with the people, we like and love.

In neuroscience, this state is called the “Default Mode”. This activates during passive rest and mind-wandering rather than a focused task being performed. We never learned how to be aware and careful of this ”default” state of our minds — The problem is that catapults us into a “provisional life state.”

And creates a strange feeling that one is not yet in real solid life. For the time being, one is doing this or that… [but] there is always the fantasy that sometime in the future the real thing will come about.

I try not to spend too much time in this provisional state of mind. And instead, I drop expectations and focus to do things that are more connected with my body, mind, and first-level emotions right now today.

For example. having open conversations, going for walks or hikes, intense workouts, kissing, sex, dancing in a group, exploring connections with people, and discovering a new place. These concrete activities do not revolve around just thinking, and wondering.

Activities that require using your social skills, your body, and emotions. I think triggers a new kind of present-moment reality. And makes me feel that I am REALLY living life now, instead of wondering about it.

Are you still lost in thought?
